Aga Khan Palace

Built in 1892 by Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III to relieve famine-struck locals, the palace - showcasing Indo-Saracenic architecture with Italianate arches and spacious verandas - famously served as a prison for Mahatma Gandhi, his wife Kasturba and secretary Mahadev Desai during the 1942 Quit India Movement. You can visit the museum to see photographs and personal items of Mahatma Gandhi, stroll the manicured gardens and shop for handloom textiles at the Khadi shop.

Shaniwar Wada

The former residence and seat of power of the Peshwa dynasty, this 18th century fortress-palace is one of Pune’s popular tourist attractions. Despite being destroyed in a fire in 1828, it showcases the glory and grandeur of Maratha culture and architecture. From the Delhi Darwaja and lush gardens to the seven-storey Kasaba Palace, Rang Mahal, Hasti-Dant Mahal (Elephant Tooth Palace) and Mastani Mahal, each structure narrates stories of courage, dynasty politics and treason.

Koregaon Park

Blue Diamond is located in Pune’s most upscale neighbourhood which derives its name from the nearby Koregaon Bhima village, the site of a significant battle between the British East India Company and the Peshwas in 1818. Once populated by royal families and rich traders, it is now a trendy area of leafy lanes, chic boutiques and Pune’s best cafes and restaurants.

Sinhagad Fort

Standing tall at 1,312 metres in the Sahyadris, this major historical landmark is a symbol of Maratha valour, known for the 1670 Battle of Sinhagad led by Tanaji Malusare. Besides its history, it remains the city’s most popular trekking site. Climbing the fort takes 1.5 to 2 hours from the base village, Donje. The 2.7 km path consists of steep stone steps and rocky trails, making it a beginner-to-intermediate level hike.

Osho Garden (Osho Teerth Park)

Also known as Osho Teerth Park, which was famously transformed from an ugly creek into a Japanese Zen vision of small bridges and gorgeous green escapades,Osho Garden is one of Pune’s hidden gems. You can take a leisurely walk across 12 acres, pausing for stops to meditate at charming nooks with marble slabs and Buddha statues. Amidst dense foliage, a gurgling stream, jogging trails and a small waterfall, the garden offers peace of mind amidst natural beauty.
