ATTRACTIONS & PLACES TO VISIT IN MANDAWA

Mandawa Fort

Built in the 18th century by Thakur Nawal Singh Bahadur as his residence, the fort offers vantage positions for sweeping views of the town. It is famous for its arched gateway adorned with paintings of Lord Krishna and his cows. The interiors showcase beautiful carvings and mirror work on the walls.

Havelis of Mandawa

Some of Rajasthan’s best-kept secrets, Mandawa’s marvellous havelis (mansions) form a walking trail, earning the town the moniker of an ‘open-air art gallery. Built by prosperous merchants in the 18th to 20th centuries, these mansions were abandoned when the families migrated. They continue to enchant visitors with antique murals, marble fountains, colourfully detailed frescoes and family crests. Key stops on your haveli trail include the Murmuria, Goenka Double and Jhunjhunwala havelis, which depict the finest Shekhawati artistry. The Chokhani and Ladia havelis and the street with Saraf havelis are some of the best in the region, while Binsidhar Newatia Haveli has some unusually modern paintings, including a boy using a telephone and a European woman in a car driven by a chauffeur.
