MANDAWA FORT

Built in the 18th century by Thakur Nawal Singh Bahadur, Mandawa Fort was conceived as a fortified residence overlooking the town. Its elevated position offers expansive views across Mandawa, while the arched gateway - adorned with paintings of Lord Krishna and pastoral scenes - sets the tone for its richly decorated interiors. Within, intricate carvings, frescoes and mirror work reflect the artistic legacy of the Shekhawati region. Today, the fort functions as a heritage hotel, preserving its architectural character.

GOENKA HAVELI

Among the finest examples of Shekhawati’s painted mansions, the Hanuman Prasad Goenka double haveli reflects the wealth and artistic patronage of the Goenka merchant family in the 18th–19th centuries. Designed as a dual-winged residence for an extended family, it features elaborate frescoes that blend traditional Rajput themes with colonial-era influences, including whimsical depictions of Europeans. Intricate arches, courtyards and richly ornamented facades showcase the region’s distinctive craftsmanship, offering a vivid glimpse into the lifestyle and aesthetics of Rajasthan’s trading elite.

CASTLE MANDAWA MUSEUM

Housed within the historic Castle Mandawa complex near Gulab Haveli, this small museum offers a glimpse into the region’s feudal past and artistic traditions. Visitors can admire its geometric symmetry and carefully constructed tiers, though caution is advised as the well is deep and lacks protective railings. Local lore holds that a visit to the well is believed to fulfil wishes.

HUNJHUNWALA HAVELI

Among Mandawa’s most ornate residences, Jhunjhunwala Haveli dates to the 19th century and exemplifies the artistic richness of Shekhawati’s merchant architecture. Built by the Jhunjhunwala family, it is distinguished by its profusion of frescoes depicting mythological scenes, courtly life and early modern influences. Its famous ‘Golden Room’ features exquisite gold-painted frescoes, traditional Rajasthani art, and intricate latticework. The haveli’s elaborate facades, arched entrances and inner courtyards reflect the affluence of its patrons and the craftsmanship of local artisans.
