GATEWAY OF INDIA

The city’s most recognised landmark, located on the waterfront at Apollo Bunder at the end of Chhatrapati Shivaji Marg in South Mumbai, overlooks the Arabian Sea. DR. BHAU DAJI LAD MUSEUM

Formerly known as the Victoria and Albert Museum, Mumbai’s first museum was established as a repository of natural history. RAJIV GANDHI SEA LINK

A modern engineering marvel, this 5.6-kilometre-long, arc-shaped, cable-stayed bridge over the Arabian Sea emphasises Mumbai’s skyline and remains one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Commonly known as the Bandra–Worli Sea Link, it offers a swift connection between Bandra in the western suburbs and Worli in South Mumbai. Completed in 2009, it reduces an earlier 45-minute travel time to just eight minutes.

ELEPHANTA CAVES

An hour’s ferry ride from the Gateway of India, this UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing the pinnacle of rock-cut architecture and sculptural art in medieval India, is renowned for its intricate sculptures and tranquil island setting. Of the seven caves, the main cave is famous for carvings of the Hindu deity Shiva. The island hosts a two-day dance and music festival in February each year.

MOUNT MARY CHURCH
